Intro

Tora Tora emerged from Memphis, Tennessee in the mid-1980s, carving out a niche within the glam metal explosion by infusing the genre with a distinct blues-rock grit. Formed in 1985, the band gained momentum through local Battle of the Bands victories before signing with A&M Records.

Their 1989 debut, 'Surprise! Attack', remains their definitive statement, peaking at #47 on the Billboard 200 and producing the MTV staple 'Walkin' Shoes'. Unlike the polished pop-metal of the era, Tora Tora's sound was anchored by Anthony Corder's raspy, soulful vocals and Keith Douglas's blues-inflected guitar work. Their follow-up, 'Wild America' (1992), showcased a more mature, rootsy direction but suffered from the shifting musical landscape dominated by grunge. Despite a long hiatus following the shelving of their third album 'Revolution Day' in 1994, the band maintains a dedicated cult following. They are frequently cited by aficionados of the 'sleaze rock' subgenre as one of the most technically proficient and authentically 'rock' bands of the late-80s hair metal scene.
