Toxic Narcotic

Blistering Boston crust punk that hits like a brick to the windshield. Raw, nihilistic, and relentlessly fast music for the end of the world.

Intro

Toxic Narcotic sounds like a high-speed collision between the abrasive grit of UK crust and the hyper-kinetic energy of 80s Boston hardcore. The guitars are a thick wall of distortion, the drums are a non-stop barrage of d-beats and thrash blasts, and the vocals are a throat-shredding bark that sounds like it's being delivered through a megaphone in the middle of a riot. It is music stripped of all pretension, focusing entirely on speed, volume, and a bleak, uncompromising worldview.

What sets them apart is their fierce DIY independence and their refusal to be boxed into a single sub-genre. While they carry the 'crust' label, there is a metallic precision to their riffs and a nihilistic streak in their lyrics that feels more grounded in reality than typical punk tropes. Their sound is defined by a 'Rodent Popsicle' aesthetic: unpolished, loud, and deeply communal, reflecting their role as the anchors of the New England underground scene.

Start with '89-99' to hear the evolution of their sonic assault or dive into 'We're All Doomed' for their most refined expression of apocalyptic hardcore. This is music for people who find comfort in chaos and clarity in high-decibel noise.

Toxic Narcotic is an American crust punk band from Boston, Massachusetts, United States, who formed in 1989. Though many label them crust or hardcore, they do not self-identify with any one specific subgenre of DIY punk. Their songs typically include anti-war, -violence, and green peace lyrics. Their name, as revealed in an interview with Vice, is associated with the movement, the lead singer saying "... The name means what is says. Narcotics, chemicals, and ignorance are toxic, not just to the human mind, but also to humanity in general." Most of their albums have been released on their label, Rodent Popsicle Records. The album We're All Doomed was released in 2002 on Go-Kart Records and a split CD with Misery was released in 2004, also on Go-Kart Records. Their 15th anniversary show in December, 2004, was filmed by Subversion Media and released on Rodent Popsicle Records. The band toured the United States and Europe extensively through their career. In 2005, the band performed at North East Sticks Together. Later that year, Toxic Narcotic went on hiatus and two of its members, Bill Damon and Will Sullivan, formed the band Mouth Sewn Shut. Bill Damon, the vocalist, runs Rodent Popsicle Records. Sam Jodrey, the drummer, hurt his back in 2008 and all following shows had to be cancelled. The band is referenced in the song "I Just Saw the Gayest Guy on Earth" by AxCx, in which the narrator of the song states that the titular character hangs out with them regularly, which is one of the reasons why he is the most homosexual man on Earth.
