Tristesse de la Lune

Polished darkwave with a romantic, icy edge. Ethereal vocals meet driving synth-pop rhythms for a midnight mood that is both melancholic and danceable.

Intro

Tristesse de la Lune sounds like the elegant, colder side of the 2000s German darkwave scene. It is music built on shimmering synth pads, precise drum machine patterns, and a vocal delivery that feels like a secret whispered in a cathedral. The sound is undeniably electronic, yet it carries a heavy, romantic weight that feels rooted in Victorian gothic sensibilities rather than industrial grit.

What sets them apart is the focus on melody and atmosphere over aggression. While their peers in the EBM scene often leaned into distorted vocals and harsh textures, this project prioritizes a crystalline clarity. The vocal harmonies are layered to create a ghostly, choral effect that floats above the driving, club-ready beats, creating a tension between the dancefloor and the diary.

Start with 'A Heart Whose Love Is Innocent' to hear the project at its most cohesive. It captures that specific era of 'Schwarze Szene' music where pop accessibility met dark, introspective lyricism. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who wants their electronic music to feel like a moonlit walk through a fog-covered forest.

Tristesse de la Lune (French: "Sadness of the Moon") was an electropop group founded by German musicians Kati Roloff and Gini Martin after they left Blutengel in 2002. Their songs typically have romantic lyrics and draw inspiration from their personal lives or books as well as movies. They carried over their previous contracts with Blutengel's label Out of Line Music. Kati was no longer part of Tristesse de la Lune as of December 15th 2006. Gini continued into 2007 and had recorded six songs for a new album. A previously unreleased track "Erinnerung" was released on Out of Line Music compilation "Machineries of Joy Volume 5" in 2012.
