During his tenure with Scorpions (1973-1978), he evolved from a Hendrix-influenced blues-rocker into a sophisticated composer, culminating in the landmark 'Sails of Charon.'
His departure to form Electric Sun marked a shift toward 'Symphonic Rock,' where he began designing his own instruments to accommodate his expanding musical vision. The 'Sky Guitar,' featuring extra frets and a six-octave range, became his sonic signature.
