High-octane Russian dance-pop that fuses house beats with satirical rap. It is the sound of a 2000s Moscow club night that never wants to end.
Imagine a neon-soaked dance floor where the energy of a 90s rave meets the sharp wit of a comedy troupe. This music is built on massive, unapologetic synth hooks and driving house rhythms that demand movement. It is loud, colorful, and deeply rooted in the chaotic optimism of post-Soviet pop culture, blending club-ready production with a distinct sense of humor.
What truly sets them apart is their ability to pivot between genuine dancefloor anthems and satirical storytelling. They use the language of hip-hop and Eurodance not just to make people move, but to comment on the absurdity of daily life, fame, and the party scene itself. The vocal interplay between rapping and melodic shouting creates a communal, almost stadium-like atmosphere.
Start with the album 'Maniaki' to hear them at their commercial and creative peak. It captures the exact moment they transitioned from local Ivanovo DJs to national icons, defining the sound of a generation that wanted to dance through the economic and social shifts of the early 2000s.
Diskoteka "Avariya" (Russian: Дискотека "Авария" - Disco "Accident") are a Russian band from Ivanovo, Russia. The duo consists of Aleksey Borisovich Serov (Алексей Борисович Серов) and Aleksey Olegovich Ryzhov (Алексей Олегович Рыжов). Its former members include vocalist Anna Khokhlova (Анна Хохлова), who left in September 2020, vocalist Nikolay Stagoranovich Timofeev (Николай Стагоранович Тимофеев), who left in July 2012, and rapper Oleg Yevgenyevich Zhukov (Олег Евгеньевич Жуков), who died on February 9, 2002, of cancer. Although "Avariya" knew only moderate success in Russia during the 1990s, they are considered to be pioneers of house music in that country. Following Zhukov's death in 2002, the trio slowly lost original popularity and oriented themselves into a mainstream electropop movement.
