Wistful, shape-shifting indie rock that feels like a long train journey through the Japanese countryside. Warm analog textures meets orchestral curiosity.
Quruli sounds like the quiet realization that time is moving faster than you are. Their music is built on a foundation of classic 90s alternative rock, but it is constantly being interrupted by beautiful, unexpected detours: a sudden waltz tempo, a lonely trumpet line, or a lush string arrangement that feels imported from a 1960s film score. It is music that captures the specific texture of Japanese daily life, from the hum of a vending machine to the rhythmic clatter of a commuter train.
What makes them truly distinctive is their restless sonic evolution. Led by Shigeru Kishida, the band refuses to stay in one lane, moving from gritty garage rock to intricate electronic experiments and grand orchestral pop without losing their core sense of melancholy. There is a 'handmade' quality to their production, an analog warmth that makes even their most complex arrangements feel intimate and personal, like a letter from an old friend.
Start with the album 'THE WORLD IS MINE' for a masterclass in their experimental peak, or 'Waltz wo Odore' if you want to hear their most beautiful, classically-influenced songwriting. They are the perfect companion for any moment where you feel like a passenger in your own life, watching the world slide past a window.
