High-drama disco-punk with a vocal range that defies physics. It is fashion-forward, fiercely expressive, and sounds like a revolution in a nightclub.
Queen Bee (Ziyoou-vachi) sounds like a collision between a gritty underground punk club and a high-end fashion runway. The music is defined by its sharp, angular instrumentation and a relentless rhythmic drive that pulls from disco and funk, but it is delivered with the jagged edge of garage rock. It is music that feels expensive yet dangerous, polished yet raw, and always deeply theatrical.
The centerpiece of their sound is Avu-chan's extraordinary vocal performance. They possess a range that shifts instantly from a rich, commanding baritone to a piercing, operatic falsetto, often within the same phrase. This vocal fluidity creates a sense of constant transformation and emotional volatility that few other bands can match. The production is maximalist, favoring dense layers and sharp contrasts that highlight the band's 'fashion punk' aesthetic.
Start with the album 'BL' for a concentrated dose of their modern, groove-heavy sound, or '01' to hear their most recent evolution into cinematic, high-intensity rock. If you want to understand their cultural impact, the single 'Mephisto' captures the dark, dramatic flair that has made them a staple of modern anime soundtracks and fashion circles alike.
Queen Bee (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese rock band, formed in Kobe on March 31, 2009. They are known in Japan as Ziyoou-vachi (Japanese: 女王蜂, Hepburn: Joōbachi) and have described their genre of music and imagery themselves as "fashion punk". In 2009 the band recorded and, at the beginning of 2010, self-released an extended play record on CD-R through their own Ziyoou Record (女王レコード, Joō Rekōdo) label, followed by another the same year, which they sold at their performances. In 2011 they had their first album, Witch Hunt, professionally manufactured and distributed. Later the same year they signed a major label contract, making Ziyoou Record a sub-label of Sony Music Associated Records. They have since released six full-length major-label albums and their music has been featured in the films Love Strikes!, Sadako and Tokyo Ghoul 'S' and the television programs Spooky Romantics, Tokyo Ghoul:re, Dororo, Chainsaw Man, Undead Unluck, and Oshi no Ko.
