ネクライトーキー

High-energy J-rock with uniquely chirpy vocals and jagged, infectious guitar hooks. It is the sound of a sugar rush meeting a quarter-life crisis.

Intro

Necry Talkie sounds like a Saturday morning cartoon that grew up and developed a complex inner life. The first thing you notice is Mossa's voice, a high-pitched, almost childlike instrument that cuts through the mix with incredible personality. Beneath that brightness lies a sophisticated rock engine, powered by Ren Asahi's songwriting which balances frantic energy with genuine melodic craft. It is music that feels constantly in motion, vibrating with a nervous but joyful intensity.

What makes them truly distinctive is the contrast between their 'happy' sonic exterior and the often cynical or existential weight of their lyrics. They utilize sharp, staccato guitar work and bright synthesizer chirps that recall vintage video game soundtracks, but they ground it in a heavy, driving rhythm section. This creates a 'bittersweet pop' aesthetic where you can dance to songs about feeling like a loser or failing to meet expectations.

Start with the album 'ONE!' to hear the band at their most raw and infectious. It captures the essence of their 'chaka-poco' sound, a self-described rhythmic bounce that defines their early hits. From there, move to 'ZOO!!' to hear how they expanded their palette with more polished production and diverse arrangements without losing their signature quirkiness.

Necry Talkie (Japanese: ネクライトーキー, Hepburn: Nekurai Tōkī) (stylized in all caps when romanised) is a Japanese rock band currently signed to Sony Music Entertainment Japan. It was formed in 2017, when Ren Asahi invited three other members to form a gig. By 14 August of that year, they performed their first live at a club and released their first demo single, "Taifu! (タイフー!, Taifuu)". At the same time, they also signed to PCI records. They released their first full album, One, on 5 December 2018. Subsequently, on 24 July of the following year, they released their mini-album, Memories, and on 23 September, they switched labels to Sony Music, and released their second full album, Zoo!!, on 29 January 2020. Furthermore, they also collaborated with Kana-Boon on The First Take, in the latter's single, "Naimononedari". Following this, they released their third album Freak on 19 May 2021.
