Theatrical gothic metal that pairs deep baritone vocals with lush, darkwave synths. A heavy, melancholic exhale for moonlit nights and quiet contemplation.
URN is an American gothic metal entity founded in 1994 by Dominic St. Charles.
Originally emerging from the Cleveland death metal scene, the band's identity shifted significantly following St. Charles's collaboration with occult novelist Michelle Belanger in the gothic-rock project Sacrosanct. This transition infused URN with a deep darkwave and gothic rock sensibility, moving away from pure death metal toward a more melodic, theatrical sound. Relocating to Orlando, Florida, the band became a fixture of the dark metal underground. Their sound is characterized by St. Charles's distinctive baritone delivery, which eschews traditional metal growls for a dramatic, crooning style reminiscent of The Sisters of Mercy or Type O Negative. Critically, they are noted for their ability to blend 'rust-belt' aggression with ethereal synth textures. Despite lineup changes and hiatuses, URN has maintained a dedicated cult following within the gothic and occult subcultures, bridging the gap between extreme metal and the dark alternative scene.
