Sultry, smoky vocals meeting gypsy jazz rhythms and bluesy pop. Sophisticated late-night music for wine, rain, and reflecting on old flames.
Vaya Con Dios sounds like a dimly lit European bistro where the air is thick with stories and the band knows exactly how to pace the evening. It is anchored by Dani Klein’s unmistakable voice, which carries a weathered, soulful weight that feels both intimate and commanding. The music moves between the rhythmic snap of gypsy jazz and the smooth, melodic sensibilities of 90s adult contemporary pop.
What truly sets them apart is the instrumentation. Instead of the synth-heavy production of their era, they leaned into organic textures: the woody thrum of an upright bass, the percussive scratch of an acoustic guitar, and brass accents that feel pulled from a classic film noir. There is a specific 'continental' elegance here, a bridge between the American blues tradition and a distinctly Belgian sense of melancholy.
Start with their 1990 album 'Night Owls'. It captures the band at their commercial and creative peak, featuring the massive hit 'Nah Neh Nah' which showcases their rhythmic playfulness, alongside 'What’s a Woman?', a masterclass in bluesy, emotional pop songwriting.
Vaya Con Dios is a Belgian music act that stood out for its mixing of styles, as well as the distinctive voice of its lead singer Dani Klein. It was one of the best-selling Belgian music acts, having sold more than 10 million albums and more than 3 million singles. It was founded in 1986, but after 1991 Vaya Con Dios was for the most part a one woman band, centered on singer, lyricist, band leader and producer Dani Klein, reinforced by an ever-changing selection of musicians. In 2014, Dani Klein performed her last international tour under the Vaya Con Dios formula. Vaya Con Dios officially disbanded with their last concert on 25 October 2014, in Forest National. In 2022 Vaya Con Dios returned with a new album.
