VCMG

Pulsating, high-precision techno built from modular synths and vintage drum machines. A masterclass in rhythmic tension and analog texture for late-night focus.

Intro

VCMG sounds like the inner workings of a massive, well-oiled machine made entirely of vintage circuitry. It is techno stripped of its club-culture clichés and rebuilt with the surgical precision of two synth-pop architects. The sound is characterized by bubbling modular sequences, sharp metallic percussion, and a relentless, driving pulse that feels both futuristic and deeply rooted in the history of electronic synthesis.

What makes this project distinctive is the absence of the human voice, allowing the 'dialogue' between Vince Clarke and Martin Gore to happen through oscillating filters and rhythmic interplay. Unlike the melodic pop they are known for, this is music of texture and repetition. It captures the tension of industrial landscapes and the hypnotic allure of a perfectly programmed loop, emphasizing the raw power of the synthesizer as a lead instrument.

Start with the album Ssss. It is a cohesive exploration of minimal techno that rewards deep listening, especially on high-quality headphones where you can hear the subtle modulation of the synth patches. It is the perfect companion for high-intensity focus or a solitary drive through a city that never sleeps.

VCMG (also stylized as Vcmg) were an English electronic music duo, consisting of Vince Clarke (Erasure, ex-Yazoo, ex-Depeche Mode) and Martin Gore (Depeche Mode). Reuniting two original members of the original Depeche Mode lineup over 30 years after Clarke left the band after the release of their debut album Speak & Spell. An EP titled Spock was released (initially exclusively on Beatport) on 30 November 2011. Their second EP, Single Blip, was also released initially exclusive to Beatport on 20 February 2012. Their debut album, titled Ssss, was released on 12 March 2012 by Mute Records. Their third EP, Aftermaths was released on 20 August 2012. In 2015, Gore released a solo album titled MG as a reference to VCMG.
