Vile

Vile emerged from the fertile Northern California death metal scene of the mid-1990s, founded by guitarist and producer Colin E. Davis.

While their name is a nod to Cannibal Corpse, their sonic identity is more deeply rooted in the technical precision of Morbid Angel and the rhythmic complexity of the early 2000s brutal death metal movement. Davis, a professional engineer, has been the primary architect of the band's sound, ensuring a level of production quality that was rare for the genre during their peak years. Their 2002 album 'Depopulate' is widely considered a landmark in the brutal death metal subgenre, balancing sheer aggression with a clean, punchy mix that allowed the technicality of the performances to shine through. Throughout their career, they have maintained a high standard of musicianship, frequently recruiting members from other prominent extreme metal acts. Despite periods of inactivity, Vile remains a respected name in the underground, cited for their influence on the 'technical brutal' style that would proliferate in the late 2000s.
