Villeneuve

Villeneuve is the creative vehicle for Parisian musician and producer Benoit Villeneuve. Emerging in the early 2000s, the project is defined by an obsessive, crate-digger approach to composition, blending a background in hardcore and noise rock with a sophisticated mastery of digital recording tools.

The project gained significant critical traction with the debut album 'First Date' (2005), which featured the pivotal vocal contributions of Mélanie Pain (later of Nouvelle Vague fame). This collaboration established the Villeneuve signature: breathy, intimate female vocals set against a backdrop of eclectic electronica that ranges from glitchy downtempo to lush indie pop. Throughout his career, Villeneuve has maintained a position as a 'musician's musician' in the French scene, moving from the PIAS label to independent explorations on later releases like 'Dry Marks of Memory'. His work is characterized by a high degree of sonic independence, often recorded in home studio environments to preserve a sense of 'bedroom' intimacy despite the high-fidelity results.
