Intro

Wanderléa is the undisputed 'Ternurinha' of Brazilian music, a burst of Technicolor energy that defined the 1960s Jovem Guarda movement. Her sound is a vibrant collision of American rock and roll, British Invasion melodies, and a distinctly Brazilian sense of rhythm and charm. It feels like a permanent summer afternoon, filled with the crackle of vintage amplifiers and the infectious enthusiasm of a generation discovering its own voice through electric guitars and mod fashion.

What sets her apart is the transition from the sugary pop of her early hits to the sophisticated, experimental textures of her mid-70s work. While she began as the face of 'iê-iê-iê' (the Brazilian take on 'yeah-yeah-yeah' pop), she evolved into a formidable artist who could handle psych-folk and MPB with equal grace. Her voice carries a unique blend of innocence and grit, capable of a sweet croon one moment and a powerful, soul-inflected belt the next.

Start with her 1967 self-titled album for the quintessential sixties experience, then jump to 1975's 'Feito Gente' to hear her transform into a progressive, experimental icon. It is the perfect soundtrack for anyone who loves the aesthetic of the 60s but wants a flavor that is uniquely South American.

Wanderléa Charlup Boere Salim (born June 5, 1944 in Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais) is a Brazilian singer and former co-host of the historic television show Jovem Guarda alongside Roberto Carlos and Erasmo Carlos. The show aired on TV Record between 1965 and 1968. Wanderléa was nicknamed Ternurinha (roughly "little darling") after her first hit "Ternura" ("Somehow it got to be tomorrow").
