Wassermann is a primary alias of Wolfgang Voigt, a foundational figure in German electronic music and co-founder of the Kompakt label. While his 'Gas' project explored ambient forest-textures, Wassermann represents Voigt's engagement with the 'Cologne sound' of the late 90s and early 2000s.
The project emerged from his earlier 'Grungerman' work, which experimented with the intersection of traditional German Schlager music and techno. Wassermann refined this into a sleek, minimal aesthetic characterized by micro-samples, repetitive vocal hooks, and a strict 4/4 pulse. R.' became a definitive club anthem, encapsulating the 'Wir machen weiter' (we go on) philosophy of the post-rave era.
