Glistening analog synths and driving percussion that feel like a high-speed chase through a neon-lit 1980s sci-fi film. Cinematic, warm, and relentlessly melodic.
Waveshaper creates music that feels like the idealized memory of a 1980s blockbuster. It is the sound of chrome, neon, and high-stakes adventure, built on a foundation of authentic hardware synthesizers that provide a tangible, tactile warmth. While many in the synthwave scene lean into dark, abrasive horror tropes, Waveshaper often aims for the heroic and the awe-inspiring, capturing the sense of wonder found in early space-age cinema.
What sets him apart is his technical precision and commitment to the 'hardware' sound. You can hear the physical circuitry of the ARP 2600 and Roland Jupiter-4 in every oscillating lead and pulsing bassline. The music is densely layered but never muddy, maintaining a crystalline clarity that makes the melodies soar. It is retro-futurism at its most polished, balancing the grit of a VHS tape with the fidelity of a modern studio.
Start with '66 MHz' for a perfect introduction to his high-energy, melodic world. It captures the essence of his 'modern retro' philosophy, offering tracks that work equally well as a driving soundtrack or a focused deep-dive for synth enthusiasts. If you want something more atmospheric, 'Exploration 84' leans harder into the cinematic sci-fi storytelling that defines his aesthetic.
