Wax Idols, led by the multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Hether Fortune, emerged from the fertile Oakland/San Francisco DIY scene of the early 2010s. Critically, they are often grouped with the 'darker' side of the 2010s indie-rock revival, bridging the gap between the aggressive energy of Savages and the atmospheric dream-pop of Cocteau Twins.
