Intro

Welle: Erdball sounds like a transmission from a high-tech laboratory in 1984 that somehow survived into the present. The core of their sound is the Commodore 64's SID chip, which provides a distinctively brittle, chirping, and square-wave heavy foundation. It is music that feels both incredibly old and strangely advanced, blending the clinical precision of early Kraftwerk with the melodic sensibilities of classic New Wave.

What truly sets them apart is their total commitment to the 'radio station' concept. Their albums are structured like broadcasts, complete with news snippets, weather reports, and interludes that create a cohesive, immersive world. The interplay between Honey's authoritative, often deadpan German vocals and the softer, breathy female harmonies creates a tension between human emotion and machine logic that defines the bitpop genre they helped pioneer.

To experience their vision, start with 'Die Wunderwelt der Technik'. It is the definitive statement of their aesthetic, celebrating and critiquing the relationship between humanity and the machines we build. It’s the perfect entry point for anyone who finds beauty in the hum of a vintage computer or the glow of a vacuum tube.

Welle:Erdball (often abbreviated as W:E) is a German band whose sound is distinguished by their intensive use of the Commodore 64's SID sound chip. The band name literally means "Wave:Earthball" or "Wave:Globe" and is inspired by a Weimar republican radio play titled "Hallo! Hier Welle Erdball!". The band's logo displays a rotated version of the Eastern German motor company VEB Sachsenring, the former producer the world-famous Trabant car. Welle:Erdball have been part of the demoscene and produced several musicdisks as well as other formats over the years. They have also performed live at the Breakpoint 2006. In addition to his work as Welle:Erdball, Honey was involved in the project called "Das Präparat" from 2003 to 2005. Honey (a.k.a. Dr. Georg Linde) and "Plastique" have launched a side project called "homo~futura".
