Lush, sophisticated pop with a deep Minneapolis funk pulse. Intricate vocal harmonies and expert musicianship for late nights and creative breakthroughs.
Listening to Wendy & Lisa feels like stepping into a high-end recording studio where the air is thick with talent and expensive perfume. Their sound is a masterclass in balance: it is deeply funky but never aggressive, intellectually complex but always melodic. It carries the DNA of the Minneapolis sound but filters it through a sophisticated, West Coast art-pop lens that values space and texture as much as the groove.
What sets them apart is the psychic musical connection between the two. Their vocal harmonies often move in tight unisons or unexpected intervals that feel like a single mind singing. Musically, they blend Lisa’s cinematic keyboard textures with Wendy’s rhythmic, scratching guitar work, creating a dense but breathable atmosphere that feels both intimate and expansive.
Start with their 1987 self-titled debut for the purest distillation of their pop-funk transition, then move to 'Eroica' to hear them push into more ambitious, organic, and experimental territory. It is music for people who appreciate the craft of a perfectly placed bassline and the emotional weight of a well-timed synth swell.
Wendy & Lisa (briefly known as Girl Bros.) is a music duo consisting of Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman. They began working with Prince in the early 1980s and were part of his band the Revolution, before branching out on their own and releasing their eponymous debut studio album in 1987. In recent years they have turned their attention to writing music for film and television and have won an Emmy Award. They have released five studio albums, with their most recent album being 2008's White Flags of Winter Chimneys.
