High-velocity Swedish crust punk that hits like a freight train. Melodic death metal riffs meet relentless d-beat rhythms for a visceral, high-octane experience.
Wolfbrigade sounds like the precise moment a riot turns into a choreographed surge. It is music built on the 'd-beat' - a specific, galloping drum pattern that provides a sense of unstoppable forward momentum. While many of their peers lean into lo-fi murk, Wolfbrigade maintains a muscular, punchy clarity that highlights their technical proficiency and metal-influenced songwriting.
What truly distinguishes them is the 'Lycanthro-Punk' aesthetic: a fusion of raw hardcore aggression with the melodic sensibilities of Swedish death metal. The guitars possess that iconic 'buzzsaw' distortion, but they aren't just playing power chords; there are soaring, dark melodies and thrashy leads that elevate the songs beyond simple three-chord punk. It is bleak, powerful, and incredibly focused.
For those new to the band, 'Comalive' or 'In Darkness You Feel No Regrets' are the ideal entry points. These albums showcase their ability to balance sheer speed with memorable hooks and a production style that feels massive without losing its underground grit. It is the gold standard for modern crust.
Wolfbrigade (formerly Wolfpack) is a Swedish crust punk band formed in 1995 by Jocke Rydbjer, Erik Norberg, Marcus "M. Psykfall" Johansson, Frank Johansen and the vocalist Tomas Jonsson (known for being part of the local crust punk band Anti Cimex). Jocke Rydbjer and Erik Norberg had played in the defunct death metal band Obscure Infinity, and had talked about doing a new band mixing d-beat / crust with death metal, and had already done some demos (among them ”Enter the Gates” and ”Twisted Hunger”). Meanwhile had Marcus Johansson and Tomas Jonsson started talking about doing a band together since Anti Cimex had broken up and Marcus’ band Harlequin was about to. Since the town of Mariestad is small, the two camps soon found each other and decided to join forces. Frank Johansen from Obscure Infinity was then recruited to play drums.
