Wolfstone

Wolfstone is a seminal force in the Celtic Rock movement, founded in 1989 in Inverness by fiddler Duncan Chisholm and guitarist Stuart Eaglesham. While many of their contemporaries in the Scottish folk scene focused on acoustic preservation, Wolfstone integrated the power of 1980s and 90s arena rock into traditional Highland music.

Their sound identity is defined by the 'unison riff' - where the fiddle or pipes play traditional melodies in lockstep with distorted electric guitars. The band's history is marked by a period of significant critical and commercial success in the mid-1990s under the Green Linnet label, followed by a brief hiatus and a move toward independent production. They were a crucial bridge for artists like Martyn Bennett (who was a member) and Shooglenifty, pushing the boundaries of how 'trad' music could be staged.
