Worm

Worm is a Florida-based extreme metal project led by the multi-instrumentalist known as Fantomslaughter. While early releases like 'Evocation of the Black Marsh' leaned into a raw, lo-fi black/death sound influenced by Goatlord and Mortuary Drape, the project underwent a massive evolution with 2021's 'Foreverglade'.

This era saw the integration of high-fidelity production and neoclassical guitar shredding, courtesy of session members like Philippe Tougas (First Fragment). This shift placed Worm at the forefront of a new wave of 'atmospheric death-doom,' characterized by a focus on environmental storytelling and technical prowess. Culturally, they have become synonymous with the 'swamp metal' aesthetic, drawing heavily on the geography of the American South to create a unique brand of regional horror. Critical consensus highlights their ability to make 'ugly' music sound beautiful through lush arrangements and melodic sensibilities. They are a bridge between the cavernous death metal scene (Spectral Voice, Mortiferum) and the more melodic, ethereal side of doom (Dream Unending).
