Yacøpsæ

Yacøpsæ is a foundational pillar of the German powerviolence and fastcore scenes, formed in Hamburg in 1990. Emerging from the DIY squat culture, the band was founded by Stoffel and Pattex with the explicit goal of creating the fastest hardcore possible.

Their sound identity is defined by 'micro-songs' - often clocking in between 10 and 40 seconds - that utilize hyper-accelerated blast beats and a 'stop-and-go' structural philosophy. Unlike many of their contemporaries in the death metal-adjacent grindcore scene, Yacøpsæ maintains a distinct punk aesthetic, favoring raw production and socio-political lyrical themes over gore or fantasy. Their career is marked by a prolific output of split EPs and a few seminal full-lengths, most notably 2001's 'Einstweilige Vernichtung'. Critically, they are revered for their technical consistency and for maintaining a strictly anti-commercial, DIY ethos for over three decades. They bridge the gap between 80s d-beat/thrash and the modern extreme hardcore movement, influencing a generation of 'fast' bands globally.
