Yard Act

Yard Act emerged from the fertile Leeds DIY scene in 2019, quickly becoming a leading voice in the UK's 'crank wave' or 'post-punk revival' movement. Founded by James Smith and Ryan Needham, the band's identity is defined by a fusion of minimalist post-punk, funk-inflected grooves, and narrative-driven social commentary.

Their debut album, 'The Overload', was a commercial and critical breakthrough, peaking at number two on the UK charts and establishing them as masters of the satirical character study. Musically, they draw from a wide palette including the rhythmic tension of Gang of Four, the art-pop sensibilities of Talking Heads, and the danceable grit of the Happy Mondays. Their evolution has seen them move from the stripped-back, drum-machine-led tracks of their early EPs to the more maximalist, disco-influenced production of their second album, 'Where's My Utopia?'
