YAST

YAST (originally Youth And Student Travel) emerged from the vibrant Swedish indie scene, specifically moving from Sandviken to Malmö. Their sound is a sophisticated synthesis of 90s American indie influences like Yo La Tengo and Pavement, filtered through the melodic sensibilities of the 'C86' jangle pop movement and the atmospheric depth of British shoegaze.

The band's core identity is defined by the interplay of three guitarists, creating a dense but never muddy wall of sound that prioritizes melody over noise. Their association with members of the post-punk act Aerial adds a rhythmic discipline to their dreamier tendencies, preventing the music from becoming purely ambient.
