Zelle is a Filipino alternative rock quintet formed in 2007, led by vocalist and primary songwriter Jeazell Grutas. Emerging during a fertile period for female-fronted rock in the Philippines (the 'OPM' scene), Zelle distinguished themselves through the prominent use of violin, played by Anthony Ramirez, which lent their music a chamber-pop sophistication rare in the garage-heavy local scene of the time.
Their debut album, 'Search for Warmth', established their identity as purveyors of 'hugot' (deeply emotional) music before the term became a modern marketing staple. Their sound identity is built on a foundation of melodic pop-rock, but elevated by Grutas's rich, breathy alto and the interplay between electric guitar and strings. Critically, they are viewed as a bridge between the radio-friendly pop-rock of Moonstar88 and the more artful, dramatic arrangements of Imago. Despite a hiatus, their return in the mid-2010s showed an evolution toward more mature, polished production while maintaining the core emotional honesty that defined their early success.
