Zoey Van Goey

Zoey Van Goey was a pivotal, if short-lived, fixture of the late-2000s Glasgow indie scene. Formed in 2006 by Matt Brennan (Canada), Michael John McCarthy (Ireland), and Kim Moore (England), the band represented a cosmopolitan intersection of folk and pop sensibilities within the Scottish musical landscape.

Their sound identity is defined by intricate arrangements, often featuring glockenspiel and strings, and a democratic vocal approach where all three founding members contributed lead and harmony vocals. Their early career was bolstered by the patronage of Belle and Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch, who produced their debut single, and Paul Savage of The Delgados, who helped shape their studio sound at Chemikal Underground Records. Critically, they were lauded for their ability to blend the 'twee' pop lineage of Postcard Records with a more modern, slightly experimental chamber-folk edge. Though they disbanded in 2012, their members remained active in the arts, with Kim Moore moving into sound design and composition.
