Abandoned and Forgotten

Released in 2010, Abandoned and Forgotten is a pivotal work in the discography of the Greek black metal project Sad. While many of their contemporaries in the Hellenic scene were known for a warmer, more melodic sound, Sad leaned into the raw, depressive aesthetic popularized by the second wave of black metal. The album consists of six lengthy tracks that emphasize atmosphere over technicality. The production is intentionally lo-fi, creating a sense of distance and decay that complements the lyrical themes of isolation and despair. It is often cited as a prime example of Depressive Suicidal Black Metal (DSBM) due to its focus on negative emotional states and its minimalist, repetitive song structures. The eleven-minute closing track, Street Spirit, serves as a definitive statement of the band's sonic philosophy, pushing their bleak vision to its logical, exhausting conclusion.
