Antichrist Superstar

Released on October 8, 1996, by Nothing and Interscope Records, Antichrist Superstar is the second studio album by Marilyn Manson. The record was produced by the vocalist alongside Sean Beavan, former Skinny Puppy producer Dave Ogilvie, and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Recorded over an arduous eight-month period at Nothing Studios in New Orleans, the sessions were notoriously marred by extreme sleep deprivation, heavy drug experimentation, and intense interpersonal hostility. This volatile environment ultimately led to the acrimonious firing of founding guitarist Daisy Berkowitz during the recording process, with Twiggy Ramirez stepping in to compose a vast majority of the album's guitar and bass parts. Musically, the album is a highly conceptual rock opera divided into three distinct acts: 'The Hierophant', 'Inauguration of the Worm', and 'Disintegrator Rising'. It serves as the first entry in a triptych that would later include Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood. Sonically, it is a landmark fusion of industrial metal, alternative metal, and goth rock, characterized by dense layers of noise, mechanical drum programming, and a cyclical structure that begins and ends with the same distorted vocal loop.
