Bonded by Blood

Bonded by Blood is the 1985 debut studio album by Exodus and remains a cornerstone of the thrash metal genre. Although recorded in 1984, label delays pushed its release, causing it to arrive after Metallica's debut, despite Exodus being equally influential in the early Bay Area scene. It is the only studio full-length to feature original vocalist Paul Baloff, whose 'ugly' and aggressive vocal style became synonymous with the band's early identity. The songwriting, led by guitarist Gary Holt, focuses on high-speed tremolo picking, complex rhythmic shifts, and lyrical themes of violence and metal culture. Critically, it is cited alongside Slayer's Reign in Blood and Metallica's Kill 'Em All as a foundational text of extreme metal. The album's production is notably raw and analog, capturing the kinetic energy of their legendary live performances.
