Byablue

Released in 1977, Byablue serves as the penultimate studio document of Keith Jarrett's 'American Quartet,' featuring Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, and Paul Motian. The album is historically significant for its democratic approach; unlike previous outings dominated by Jarrett's writing, Byablue consists primarily of compositions by Paul Motian. This shift resulted in a more atmospheric, open-ended sound compared to the denser post-bop of their earlier Impulse! recordings. Recorded in October 1976 at Generation Sound Studios, the sessions were incredibly prolific, also yielding the material for the album Bop-Be.
