Daemon represents a pivotal moment in Mayhem's discography, acting as a bridge between the raw traditionalism of De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and the experimental leanings of their later work like Esoteric Warfare. Released in 2019, it was widely seen as a 'return to form' that didn't sacrifice the band's technical evolution. The recording features the core lineup of Attila Csihar, Necrobutcher, and Hellhammer, alongside guitarists Teloch and Ghul, who provide a more direct and riff-focused approach than seen on previous outings. The production is notably cleaner and more powerful than their early work, allowing Hellhammer's legendary drum work to cut through with terrifying speed.
