Disment of Soul

Disment of Soul is a fascinating artifact of a time before Amorphis became the masters of melodic, folk-infused progressive metal. This is the sound of the Finnish underground in 1991: cold, cavernous, and uncompromisingly heavy. It captures the band in their most primitive state, leaning heavily into the death/doom aesthetic that defined the early Helsinki and Espoo scenes. The production is thick with tape hiss and a muddy, subterranean reverb that makes the guitars sound like they are being played through a wall of wet concrete.
