Amorphis

Amorphis is a cornerstone of the Finnish metal scene, evolving from a primitive death-doom outfit into a sophisticated progressive metal institution. Formed in 1990, their early work like 'The Karelian Isthmus' helped define the Nordic death metal sound, but it was 1994's 'Tales from the Thousand Lakes' that changed everything.

By incorporating folk melodies and clean vocals, they effectively birthed the folk-metal crossover. Their career is defined by a deep obsession with the Kalevala, Finland's national epic, which provides a consistent thematic backbone for their work. Musically, they are characterized by Esa Holopainen's signature 'sliding' guitar leads and Santeri Kallio's retro-leaning keyboard textures.
