Elysium

Released in 2011, Elysium is the thirteenth studio album by Stratovarius and serves as a definitive statement of their second golden age. Following the departure of founding guitarist Timo Tolkki, the band reinvented themselves with guitarist Matias Kupiainen, who brought a more progressive and modern edge to their neoclassical roots. This album is particularly notable for its title track, an 18-minute multi-part epic that remains one of the longest and most ambitious compositions in the band's history. It also marks the final appearance of longtime drummer Jörg Michael, closing a significant chapter for the group. Musically, it balances the high-speed 'Finnish style' power metal of tracks like 'Event Horizon' with mid-tempo, anthemic pieces like 'Darkest Hours'.
