Evil Warning

Released in late 1994, Evil Warning is an EP that bridges the gap between Angra's landmark debut Angels Cry and their follow-up efforts. Originally released primarily for the Japanese market, it features remixed and slightly reworked versions of the band's early anthems. The centerpiece for many fans is the edit of their 'Wuthering Heights' cover, which showcases Andre Matos's extraordinary four-octave range and his background in classical piano and conducting. The production is notably dense, utilizing the 'Wall of Sound' approach common in power metal but tempered by the band's insistence on organic-sounding percussion and piano. This release solidified Angra's reputation as the premier Brazilian metal export of the 1990s, proving they could match the technical proficiency of Helloween or Stratovarius while injecting a distinct, soulful identity rooted in their own cultural heritage.
