Eurus

Released in 2018 as the second installment of their four-part seasonal EP series, Eurus represents the 'Autumn' chapter of The Oh Hellos' conceptual cycle. Following the more hopeful, spring-like Notos, Eurus shifts the tone toward introspection and the complexities of belief and identity. The album is heavily influenced by the Anemoi (Greek wind gods) and C.S. Lewis's 'The Great Divorce,' using these frameworks to explore the idea of leaving behind old versions of oneself. Sonically, it maintains the band's characteristic blend of indie folk and baroque pop, but with a darker, more rhythmic edge. The production is dense and maximalist, often featuring dozens of layered instruments to create a 'wall of folk' sound. Critically, it solidified the band's place at the center of the dark academia and cottagecore subcultures, praised for its intellectual depth and cinematic arrangements.
