Force Majeure

Released in 1979, Force Majeure is the ninth studio album by Tangerine Dream and serves as the final statement of their 1970s output. Recorded at Hansa Studios in Berlin, the album features the core duo of Edgar Froese and Christopher Franke, with Klaus Krüger on drums. It is historically significant for its heavy integration of traditional rock elements, specifically drums and guitars, which signaled a shift away from the pure synthesizer explorations of Phaedra and Rubycon. The album is famously noted for the 'happy accident' on 'Thru Metamorphic Rocks,' where a transistor failure in the mixing console created a unique distortion that the band chose to preserve. This record also highlights Froese's classical influences, incorporating themes from Arcangelo Corelli.
