From Here to Eternity

Released in July 1977, From Here to Eternity represents a pivotal moment in music history where Giorgio Moroder fully committed to an all-electronic palette. Recorded at Musicland Studios in Munich, the album utilized the Moog modular synthesizer to create a 'robotic' disco sound that eschewed traditional instruments. This was a radical departure from the lush, orchestral disco prevalent at the time. The first side of the original LP is famously mixed as a continuous suite, a technique that would become a standard in dance music. Critically, the album is cited alongside 'I Feel Love' (produced by Moroder for Donna Summer the same year) as the foundation of Hi-NRG and Italo disco. While Moroder had experimented with pop and rock earlier in his career, this album solidified his identity as the 'Father of Disco' and a pioneer of the synthesizer as a lead instrument. Its influence can be traced directly to the work of Daft Punk, Pet Shop Boys, and the entire Detroit techno movement.
