Ghostlights

Released in 2016, Ghostlights serves as the seventh installment of Tobias Sammet's Avantasia project and the thematic conclusion to the narrative arc begun on 2013's The Mystery of Time. The album is notable for its darker, more gothic tone compared to its predecessor, a shift Sammet attributed to a spontaneous creative evolution during the songwriting process. It features a staggering lineup of guest vocalists including Geoff Tate (Queensrÿche), Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Michael Kiske (Helloween), and Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation). The lead single 'Mystery of a Blood Red Rose' gained mainstream attention in Germany as a contender for the Eurovision Song Contest. Musically, the album is a masterclass in the 'Metal Opera' format, blending power metal speed with symphonic grandeur and progressive structures, most notably on the twelve-minute centerpiece 'Let the Storm Descend Upon You'.
