Glory to the Brave

Released in 1997, Glory to the Brave is widely credited with revitalizing the European power metal scene during a decade dominated by alternative rock and extreme metal. Though HammerFall formed in 1993, this debut captures a refined sound developed through years of live performance. The recording features a unique lineup quirk: while In Flames' Jesper Strömblad is credited as the drummer, the parts were actually performed by session player Patrik Räfling. Musically, the album is a masterclass in the 'Swedish style' of power metal, blending the melodic sensibilities of Helloween with the heavy riffing of Judas Priest.
