Golden Feelings

Released in 1993 on the Sonic Enemy label, Golden Feelings is Beck's debut studio album, originally distributed as a limited-run cassette. It serves as the definitive document of his roots in the anti-folk movement, a scene characterized by its rejection of folk's earnestness in favor of punk's aggression and surrealist lyricism. The album is notorious for its extremely low-fidelity production, featuring heavy tape saturation, backward masking, and manipulated vocal tracks. Following Beck's mainstream breakthrough, the album was remastered and released on CD in 1999 without his consent, leading to a legal dispute that halted production after only 2,000 copies.
