Just for a Day

Released in 1991 on the legendary Creation Records, Just for a Day is the debut studio album from Slowdive. Recorded at Courtyard Studios, it followed a string of highly successful EPs that had already established the band as leaders of the burgeoning shoegaze movement. The album is characterized by its 'aqueous' production, a term frequently used by critics to describe the fluid, submerged quality of the arrangements. Unlike the aggressive wall-of-sound approach of peers like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive focused on a more melodic, 'ethereal' branch of the genre, influenced by the Cocteau Twins and early post-punk.
