Kulkija (Finnish for 'Wanderer') is the tenth studio album by Korpiklaani, marking a departure from the high-speed 'drinking song' formula of their earlier career toward a more natural, organic, and mid-tempo folk sound. Recorded using the band's live touring rigs to capture a more authentic performance, the album is their longest to date at over 70 minutes. It emphasizes the 'folk' in folk metal, with Jonne Järvelä's vocals shifting toward a more narrative, storytelling style. The production is notable for its high dynamic range and lack of modern metal over-compression, allowing the fiddle and accordion to lead the melodic charge. Critically, it was seen as a maturing point for the band, moving away from the novelty of 'Vodka' or 'Tequila' into a more serious exploration of Finnish identity and nature.
