Leichenschmaus

Released in October 1999, Leichenschmaus is the debut full-length album from German producer Florian Senfter, better known as Zombie Nation. Recorded primarily using an Akai MPC4000 and various analog synthesizers, the album is a cornerstone of late-90s hardware techno. It is most famous for the track 'Kernkraft 400', which sampled a melody from David Whittaker's soundtrack for the 1984 Commodore 64 game Lazy Jones. This specific track transcended the electronic music scene to become a global sports anthem, particularly in North American hockey and European football. Beyond the hit, the album explores a range of electro and big beat influences, characterized by a 'trashy' but warm production style that favored 8-bit sound chips and distorted basslines. Critically, it is viewed as a bridge between the minimalist techno of the era and a more maximalist, pop-aware sensibility that would later influence the electro-clash movement.
