Let’s Be Still

Released in 2013 as the follow-up to their self-titled debut, Let’s Be Still represents a significant expansion of The Head and the Heart's sonic palette. Recorded at Seattle's Studio X with producer Peter Katis, the album retains the band's signature three-part harmonies but introduces more varied instrumentation, including synthesizers and more prominent electric guitars. The record captures a band grappling with the pressures of sudden fame and the exhaustion of constant touring, themes that manifest in the recurring lyrical motifs of home, stillness, and the passage of time. Critically, it was viewed as a more mature, if slightly more polished, iteration of the indie-folk revival sound. It solidified their position as leaders of the genre alongside bands like The Lumineers and Fleet Foxes, while carving out a more piano-centric, pop-adjacent niche that would define their later career trajectory.
