Lies

Lies, released in 1995 on Morbid Records, represents the creative and technical zenith of Krabathor's 'classic' era. Recorded at Exponent Studio in Slovakia over a mere ten-day period, the album captures a raw, live energy that was becoming increasingly rare as death metal moved toward more sterile production in the mid-90s. While their previous effort, Cool Mortification, leaned into a more atmospheric and somber sound, Lies pivots back toward the band's thrash roots while maintaining a sophisticated, technical song structure. The trio of Bruno, Christopher, and Pegas displays remarkable chemistry, particularly in the rhythmic interplay between the bass and the percussion. Critically, the album is regarded as a cornerstone of Eastern European extreme metal, helping the band break out of the regional underground and into the broader European consciousness. It remains a cult favorite for its refusal to adopt the 'wall of sound' production style, opting instead for a transparent, punchy mix where every instrument is clearly defined.
