Released in 1995, Life served as the international breakthrough for The Cardigans, particularly in Japan and Europe. While their debut, Emmerdale, established their 'lounge-pop' credentials in Sweden, Life refined this sound into something more crystalline and commercially potent. Produced by Tore Johansson at Tambourine Studios, the album is a cornerstone of the 'Malmö Sound', characterized by its use of vintage analog equipment, prominent woodwinds, and a clean, dry mix that emphasizes instrumental separation.
