Little Window

Released in 2001 on David Tibet's Durtro label, Little Window serves as the definitive introduction to the singular world of Baby Dee. While Dee would later become known for her associations with Antony and the Johnsons and Current 93, this debut is a self-produced and entirely self-performed affair. The album is characterized by its extreme minimalism, eschewing the more elaborate chamber arrangements of her later career in favor of stark piano and harp. It occupies a unique space between avant-garde classical music and the 'freak folk' movement of the early 2000s. Critics have noted the album's 'outsider' perspective, informed by Dee's colorful life as a street performer and church organist. Though currently out of print as a standalone release, its inclusion in the 'The Robin's Tiny Throat' compilation solidified its status as a foundational text of 21st-century art-folk.
