Love, Pussycats & Carwrecks

Released in 1996 on the influential Ninja Tune label, 'Love, Pussycats & Carwrecks' is James Braddell's second full-length outing as Funki Porcini and stands as a high-water mark for the UK's 'trip-hop' and 'downtempo' movements. While many of his contemporaries leaned into soul or pop sensibilities, Braddell utilized his background in film and experimental music to create something far more narrative and abstract. The album is characterized by its heavy use of jazz samples - particularly upright bass and brass - recontextualized through the lens of jungle-influenced breakbeats and ambient soundscapes.
